During the period of military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985), Cid Moreira (1927-2024) became an iconic figure in Jornal Nacional, spreading the most influential news in a tumultuous era. From 1969 to 1996, the presenter was an important figure on Brazilian television.
In I'm Still Here, by Walter Salles, which depicts the story of former deputy Rubens Paiva and his wife Eunice, Cid appears as the narrator at crucial moments. In one scene, he reports on the kidnapping of Swiss ambassador Giovanni Bucher, who was released after being exchanged for 70 political prisoners.
Although Cid tries to recreate the intonation of the 70s, the recording is still current, as filmmaker Daniela Thomas confirmed to the press. The communicator, who died last month at the age of 97, recorded the call for the film about a year ago.
Starring Selton Mello and Fernanda Torres, I'm Still Here was selected by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema to compete for the 2025 Oscars in the best international film category. This film premiered in Brazil this Thursday (11/7).
