Our team finished the competition in Gateshead in fifth place. It's hard to imagine a Pole getting on the podium after so many years. This was mainly due to doping accidents and disqualifications of athletes from Russia, Türkiye, France and Belarus.
– We received a letter regarding this issue in October, and recently in Skopje, during the European Athletics meeting, we received a commemorative bronze medal from the international federation authorities – said the general secretary of the Polish Athletics Association (PZLA), Krzysztof Kecki.
Changed after many years. Poland takes bronze at the European Championships
– Russia won, but due to subsequent doping errors they began to lose positions. Today their team was classified in fifth place, and we rose to third place. Justice is served. It's a shame we had to wait so long – said Majewski, who was the team captain at that time.
The two-time Olympic champion in shot put finished second at the stadium in Gateshead. Adam Kszczot (800 m) and Paweł Fajdek (hammer throw) won their events.
