An angry and insulted Trump campaign was also hard to find in West Palm Beach, as were threats regarding 'mass deportation' of migrants. Even after his first election victory in 2016, Trump initially showed his best side. This was followed by a sombre inaugural speech in January in which he called African countries 'shithole countries'.
The policy is now only discussed in passing, although Trump made extraordinary statements about migrants who, he argued, could return 'lawfully'. It was not clear which migrants Trump was referring to, but it was clear that he was referring to the large number of Latin American migrants trying to enter America through Mexico. On the campaign trail, Trump has never spoken about legalizing this migration flow before, so it's unclear what exactly he means.
Trump also boasted of the fact that there had been no war during his previous term in office and that he chose not to deploy the 'mighty' US military. In Ukraine, President Zelensky will interpret this as an allusion to peace with Russia under American pressure.
