In the US congressional elections, the Republican Party succeeded in capturing the seat of West Virginia senator from the Democratic Party.
Jim Justice, the state's current conservative governor, was elected to Pesti.
The current West Virginia Senator, Joe Manchin, has been sitting in the Senate unaffiliated after breaking away from the Democratic Party, but has voted in line with their views.
With the results of this election, the Republican Party only needs one new seat to control the Senate, while the Democrats previously held power with a difference of two seats.
All seats in the House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate are up for election.
