70,000 tonnes of hazardous waste was dumped directly onto the ground

Inspectors identified approximately 70,000 tons of blast furnace sludge (waste from ore crushing), plus a whole list of hazardous materials such as used oil, car filters, petroleum product packaging, electrical and electronic equipment, and used tires.

All of this is simply thrown away and mixed with recyclable waste such as paper, cardboard and plastic.

The landowner was fined 36,000 lei and a criminal case was opened. Authorities require them to collect hazardous waste separately, hand it over only to authorized companies and submit plans for comprehensive sludge disposal and land rehabilitation.
