A pair of hunters kept wild boars for a year without permission, and the animals were euthanized

A year later, during a routine checkup,French Biodiversity Office (OFB) found the wild boar behind a fence containing goats and ducks. The hoofed animal, which does not display the behavior of a wild animal, intrigued the agents.

After checking the situation, they noted that the wild boar had not been vaccinated or neutered, and that the pig had not been declared to the prefecture, thus violating regulations on keeping non-pet animals. Investigations quickly uncovered health risks associated with the presence of wild boars, animals that can carry African swine fever or Aujeszky's disease.

Potential health risks

In response to the allegations, the couple admitted to delaying taking steps to regulate the situation: “We sought information on forums and contacted the Brigitte-Bardot Foundation before submitting an official request to the prefecture in January 2024,” our colleagues reported, noting that this request was made just days before control by OFB agents.
