A young Stuttgart footballer was injured by a torch during Wednesday's Champions League match at home to Atalanta, German police said on Thursday.
Home fans lit hundreds of torches during the 2-0 defeat and authorities said many people in the stadium were in danger. Italian fans also set off fireworks.
In the second half of the match, a flaming rocket flew onto the field and hit a boy in the neck who was passing the ball along the touchline. Police said the incident was caught on camera and the investigation is still ongoing.
The young footballer immediately received first aid, and the extent of his injuries is not yet known. A person in the stands suffered burns and two others were treated for smoke inhalation.
After the match, around 15 Stuttgart fans attacked six Atalanta fans, robbing and injuring them. Police tracked down the fleeing attackers and eight of them were arrested, with one police officer injured in the incident.
