English football club Liverpool has contacted representatives of Aurelien Chuameni about a potential transfer from Spain's Real Madrid, reports the British media “Express”. The Merseysiders wanted to lure the Frenchman even before he moved to the Bernabeu, and according to reports, they will make another attempt next summer.
Chuameni is a transfer target for former manager Jurgen Klopp, but interest remains in new coach Arne Slott. Real Madrid will agree to offload the Frenchman for around £50m as there is speculation the Spanish club will try to snatch Ballon d'Or winner Rodri from Manchester City. Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea is the second option for Madrid.
According to the Express, Slott and his staff see Chuameni as the perfect defensive midfielder in Liverpool's current system. Currently, Ryan Gravenberch fills this role well, but the Reds are still trying to upgrade in midfield. In the summer they wanted Martin Subimendi, but he chose to stay at Real Sociedad.
Chuameni, who is under contract until the summer of 2028, has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid since the start of the season.
