Nurgyul Salimova achieved her first win at the Women's Grand Prix Chess Tournament in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
In the last eighth round of the competition, the 21-year-old Bulgarian defeated Bathuyag Muguntuul of Mongolia with black pieces and collected 3 points, with which he alone placed himself in eighth place.
Salimova played an incredible game, achieving an impressive 98.6 percent accuracy in her movements. The Bulgarian was at his best late in the match, when in a seemingly equal position he managed to outwit 37-year-old Muguntuul. Thus, the Mongolian troops had no other choice but to surrender at the 50th move.
In tomorrow's final round of the tournament, Salimova will play against Russia's Alexandra Goryachkina, who leads the rankings with 6.5 points – one point more than second-place Tang Zhongyi of China. However, Goryachkina's victory in the tournament is not certain. The Russian will be aiming for at least a draw against Salimova to take top spot. Another option for him is the mistake of Tan Zhongy, who plays black against third-ranked Stavroulou Tsolakidou of Greece, who has 5 points.
The prize fund of the tournament in Shymkent is 80,000 euros.
