US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said on Thursday that he would not leave his post even if asked to do so by President-elect Donald Trump.
At a press conference following the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting, Powell gave a clear “no” when asked whether he would resign at Trump's request.
In his first term, Powell had a tense relationship with Trump, who frequently criticized him for decisions on interest rates and economic policy. The tensions have led to speculation that Trump may try to remove Powell from office upon his return to the White House.
However, Powell emphasized that such actions are not permitted by law before the end of his term.
