The dam in Silistrensko has dead volume, but this does not threaten drinking and household water supplies in the region, says Ivelin Nikov

After the drought of recent years, the height of the dam at Silistrensko is at dead volume or zero height. This was revealed by Ivelin Nikov, secretary of the district headquarters for disaster protection, to BTA.

However, according to him, there is no danger of disrupting the water supply, because in the region there are no dams that could be used to provide drinking water, and those used for irrigation are not of great economic importance.

According to data from the local water supply and sewerage company, the district gets its water supply for drinking and household needs from 82 water sources, 70 of which are pumps, and 12 are gravity wells and water catchments.

Nikov also said that the water bodies in the district were in good technical and operational condition.

“Currently, we do not have dams in emergency or pre-emergency conditions. The tasks determined based on reports from the municipality and on special orders of the regional governor have been completed. The tenant fulfills his obligations. There is a round-the-clock organized duty at the drainage pumping station, daily patrols on the embankments. Pumping stations are equipped with aggregates,” the expert said.
