The production of “Guns and the Man”, directed by John Mlakovich, staged at the National Theater “Ivan Vazov”, ended, and only a few people, such as the audience and media representatives, managed to enter the hall. Even though there were protests in front of the building, the performance took place peacefully, without tension in the theater room.
BTA recalled that residents gathered to protest tonight in front of the National Theater to demand the removal of Bernard Shaw's play “Arms and the Man” from the theater bill.
The show started at around 20.00 with the hall almost empty. Start time announced at 19:00. The theater director, Vasil Vassilev, allowed the media to attend the production to reflect on what was presented. Before the premiere began, theater security tried to arrange a security guard for audience members who had tickets, but the protesters would not let them in.
At the beginning of the protest the dissatisfied announced that they would also demand the resignation of the theater director. He then attempted to come out to address the crowd, but was physically attacked by some of them. Subsequently, Vassilev was taken back to the theater by security personnel unharmed.
Some protesters then managed to enter the theater building and tried to break in, but were stopped by security because of their aggressive behavior.
