Manchester United footballers want caretaker coach Ruud van Nistelrooy to remain with the team even after the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim, goalkeeper Andre Onana said, quoted by Reuters. The Dutch coach took over from the sacked Erik ten Hag and on Thursday led the Red Devils in doing so 2-0 win against Greece's PAOK in the Europa League.
Van Nistelrooy, the former Manchester United striker, will lead the Red Devils against Leicester City at the weekend before handing over the manager's reins to Amorim.
When asked in an interview with TNT Sports whether United's players would like to continue working with Van Nistelrooy, Onana said: “100%. He is a very good person and a very good coach. His experience helps us and we are happy under his management. But that's not it something we can decide. That's what management will do, and we have to accept it.”
Van Nistelrooy admitted that he was only thinking about the match against Leicester next weekend.
“My mind is completely focused on that. This match is my last game as caretaker manager and I want to prepare the team as well as possible. The players need that. I'm not looking further than this match at the moment,” said Van Nistelrooy, quoted by Reuters .
