The Varsinais-Suomen central entrepreneurship committee appealed to the province's decision makers so that local train services to regional centers can begin in the next term of the council.
The Entrepreneurs' Committee stated in its petition that Varsinais-Suomi is one of the fastest growing provinces in Finland. The driving force is Turku, and there are also positive signs of growth in other regional cities.
According to the committee, one of the limitations to future growth throughout Varsinais-Suomi is the weak supply of regular local public transport. The fastest and biggest opportunity to increase local traffic is to start commuter train services on the Turku–Salo, Turku–Uusikaupunki and Turku–Loimaa lines.
The committee emphasized that Lähijunaliikken will increase vitality throughout the province and will also be an environmentally friendly transportation solution.
