The Dutch far-right leader condemned the attack on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam in a phone call with Netanyahu

Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders today expressed his “anger and shame” over the attack on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Reuters reported.

Supporters of Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv, who were in the Dutch city for a match against Ajax Amsterdam, were attacked last night by what the city's mayor called an “anti-Semitic gang”. At least five people were hospitalized.

Wilders, who leads the largest party in government, wrote on the social network X that in his conversation with Netanyahu, he “expressed his anger and shame at what happened in Amsterdam.”

Previously, Dutch news agency ANP reported that Wilders this afternoon would meet Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

Reuters could not confirm whether this actually happened.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoff also had a telephone conversation with Netanyahu today. Schoff was attending a European Political Community (EPC) summit in Budapest when the attack occurred, but had to leave the meeting early and return to the Netherlands, according to Reuters.
