The US Department of Justice issued an indictment in connection with Iran's failed negotiations to kill Trump

The US Department of Justice published the indictment filed in connection with it Iranian Conspiracy over the assassination of President-elect Donald Trump, which was organized before this week's election, the Associated Press reported.

The indictment, filed in Manhattan Federal Court, alleges that in September of this year, an unnamed representative of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps instructed someone named Farjad Shakeri to prepare a plan to monitor and assassinate Trump. According to the document, Shakeri was told that if he could not come up with such a plan, then Iran would postpone the assassination of the Republican figure, whom the Islamic Republic predicted would lose the election and could then more easily get rid of him.

Shakeri told the FBI he had no intention of proposing a plan to kill Trump within the seven-day deadline.

The conspiracy allegations emerged just days after Trump defeated Democratic rival Kamala Harris in the presidential election. According to US officials, the incident reflects Iran's ongoing efforts to attack US government officials on American soil, including the president-elect, AP notes.
