Members of Israel's ruling coalition and the opposition exchanged insults during a parliamentary session to confirm Israel Katz as Israel's new defense minister, DPA reported.
Finally, opposition lawmakers, protesting the dismissal of the previous Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, left the plenary session room.
Katz was confirmed for the post and sworn in.
Netanyahu justified Gallant's firing on Tuesday by saying there had been a breach of trust between them. Gallant has several times called for a diplomatic solution to free the Israeli hostages still in Gaza. He also defended the idea of conscripting ultra-Orthodox Jews into the army, something that angered Netanyahu and the right-wing parties in the coalition he relies on.
