Argentine authorities have announced that three people have been charged in connection with the death of the British singer Liam Payneformer One Direction member, who died after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16.
The three defendants were charged with “abandonment of a person followed by death and provision and facilitation of the consumption of narcotic substances,” according to the office of prosecutor Andres Esteban Madrea.
According to prosecutors, Payne was not fully conscious or had low consciousness at the time of the fall, and one of the defendants accompanied the artist every day while he was in the Argentine capital. The other suspect is a hotel employee.
The investigation included reviewing hundreds of hours of video footage and extracting the contents of Payne's phone, which showed “at least four shipments of narcotics.”
In the artist's room, investigators found narcotics and alcohol, and an autopsy revealed that Payne had alcohol, cocaine and antidepressants in his system.
