World prices in food rose to its highest level in 18 months in October, the UN said on Friday.
Vegetable oils have led to an increase in most staple foods, according to UN data. Increases in sugar, wheat and dairy products caused by various situations around the world also have an impact.
The price index rose 2% to 127.4 points compared to September. This is the highest level since April 2023, but below the level in March 2022, reached after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
