BBC Escape to the Country guest in tears after ‘incredible’ value of home

A guest on Escape to the Country broke down in tears after discovering the value of her dream property. On Monday’s edition of the show, host Briony May Williams helped a couple find a new home in East Sussex.

After spending eight years living and working in Abu Dhabi, Jon and Rowena were ready to swap the desert and return to the UK with their youngest son, Alex.

Towards the end of the episode, the couple visited a mystery property in East Hoathly. The family home was laid out over three levels and it immediately won over Jon and Rowena.

When it came to the true value, the pair were in disbelief over the price of the property. Jon said it would be over budget and estimated £780,000, whilst Rowena guessed £765,000.

Briony then revealed that it was on the market for £650,000, to which Jon said: “You’re kidding? Really?” and Rowena said: “You’re joking?” before breaking down in tears.

Upon seeing Rowena getting emotional, Briony exclaimed: “Oh, Rowena!” to which Jon quipped: “Well, now you’ve done it!” and Briony laughed in agreement.

Rowena composed herself and then said: “Sorry, that’s so incredible!” as she then joked: “Right, phone the shipping guys. Get your check book out!”

Upon looking around the Victorian property a second time, Rowena said: “Well that was a bit of a shock. It just kept on giving. The standard is absolutely superb – this could be a possibility. We could be living here.”

Jon said: “It’s going to fit our friends, family and furniture in.” Rowena then commented: “Huge potential,” as Jon added: “It’s really, really lovely.”

Despite the positive reaction from the pair, the location didn’t pass the test from their youngest son. However, it was revealed that they had an offer accepted just outside of Brighton.

Escape to the Country airs on BBC One at 3pm.
