BBC Radio host reveals why he needs marriage counselling just a year after tying the knot

Jamie Laing has revealed he and wife Sophie Habboo are already having marriage counselling, just a year after tying the knot. The 35-year-old said he made the suggestion to go to counselling with his other half in order to improve how they communicate with one another.

The pair now have two sessions a month and the counselling has allowed the two to be more “empathetic” towards each other. The BBC Radio 1 host told The Sun on Sunday: “It opens you up and makes you more empathetic. It makes you basically not become a sociopath and it allows you to have another opinion.

“It’s made me calmer, with Sophie especially, as I’m generally more volatile than her.” Jamie and Sophie, 30, first met when they both starred on Made in Chelsea, before they began dating in 2019.

The couple tied the knot in two lavish ceremonies last year, one in London and one abroad in Marbella. Jamie announced his new gig at BBC Radio 1 in February as he took to Instagram to share the exciting news with his 1.2 million followers.

He revealed: “Well this is big news…. @bbcradio1 have for some reason trusted me to co-host the Drive Time slot with @vicknhope.

“This is a very proud moment!! Don’t really know what to say apart from, thank you and mum I’ve made it…. What possibly could go wrong?”

After seeing some negative comments, Jamie took to his Instagram page to address some of the backlash.

Taking to his stories, the presenter shared an article based on some negative responses he had received, which featured over 100 comments.

Addressing one comment from a troll who branded him “pompous nonsense”, he wrote: “Probably stop there for the day,” alongside a crying with laughter emoji.

Jamie previously presented on the station during Mollie King’s maternity leave, describing it as “an absolute dream”.

He added of his experience: “I’ve loved every minute that I’ve been on air with Radio 1 in recent years, so to be joining Vick on Drivetime is just incredible.

“I’m beyond excited to get started and keep listeners company on their journeys home.”

Jamie rose to fame in 2011 after starring on Made in Chelsea for the second series, before going on to become a finalist on Strictly Come Dancing in 2019.
