Emma Thompson has eye-watering fortune – but she wasn’t ‘very well paid’ for Love Actually

Emma Thompson, originally from London, is renowned for her roles in successful films such as Nanny McPhee, Love Actually, Harry Potter, and Much Ado About Nothing.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, she has an impressive net worth of $50million, which is approximately £40million.

Born in London to a Scottish mother and an English father, Emma is a British icon. She had a passion for language and literature and studied English at Cambridge University.

There, she joined the esteemed sketch comedy troupe, Cambridge Footlights, alongside Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

Emma made her professional acting debut in 1982, touring in a stage version of Not the Nine O’Clock News. She then transitioned to television and, later in 1985, was cast in the West End revival of the musical Me and My Girl.

An incredibly talented actress, Emma bagged both the Golden Globe and BAFTA Best Actress awards for her performance in the period drama Howard’s End in 1992.

In 1994, Emma made her Hollywood debut in the blockbuster Junior alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, and her success continued with the 1995 film Sense and Sensibility.

While appearing on “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the star revealed she wasn’t “very well paid” for Love Actually.

Thompson was asked by the popular host if she ever rewatches Love Actually, to which she replied: “No. That was 20 years ago.”

She said: “You’re just saying, ‘I don’t think I was very well paid for that. There was that terrible trailer with the loo that really stank and had that sort of….’ That’s the things you remember, not the good ones.”

In 1989, Emma Thompson married fellow actor Kenneth Branagh. The couple announced their separation in September 1995 after he reportedly had an affair with actress Helena Bonham Carter.

Emma met her second husband, Greg Wise, while filming Sense and Sensibility in 1995. The couple currently live in West Hampstead, London, in a £3million house. They also have a holiday home in Scotland, on the shore of Loch Eck on the Cowal peninsula.
