Two large fires hit forest areas in Manaus

This Wednesday morning (18), two large fires burned down vegetation in various areas of Manaus, causing fear among residents.

The first fire broke out around 10 am, on Avenida Abiurana, in the Industrial Area, near the “Bola da Gillette”, in the East Zone of the city. The fire spread quickly due to the steep terrain and the presence of flammable materials, such as tires that had been dumped carelessly. The area, which also serves as a garbage dump, has now become a hotbed of risk. Firefighters from nearby companies and the Amazonas Fire Department acted quickly, using two water trucks to control the fire.

Shortly after, at 10:30 a.m., another fire broke out on Rua da Prosperidade, in the Alvorada neighborhood, Center-West Zone. According to residents, the fire spread quickly and alarmingly, threatening the houses around the forest area. Fear that the fire would reach the houses mobilized the community, while two fire trucks were sent to the scene.

In addition to the natural risks of fire, the green areas of Alvorada are often occupied by homeless people and drug users, raising concerns among the community. Despite the severity of the fire, no fatalities were reported in the incident.
