US Elections: India expects Washington to further isolate itself. A new president will not change this

Speaking in Canberra as Americans were still casting their ballots, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said the election was unlikely to reverse what he called a long-term trend in American politics.

“Perhaps starting with (President Barack) Obama, the United States has become more cautious about its global commitments,” he said, referring to the US reluctance to deploy troops and withdraw from Afghanistan under President Joe Biden.

US election. What does India expect from the new president?

– President Trump could be clearer and more expressive on this, said Jaishankar during discussions with the foreign ministers of Australia and New Zealand. However, the Indian foreign minister added that “it is important to look at the United States on a more national basis rather than just the ideology of the current administration.”

“If we really analyze it, I think we have to prepare for a world where the United States' initial dominance and generosity will not continue,” Jaishankar said. At the same time, the head of Indian diplomacy indicated that relations with the United States would develop in the future.
