The Plovdiv District Court is handling the case of “Debora” today and tomorrow

The Plovdiv District Court is sitting behind closed doors today and tomorrow for the “Debora” case.

A total of three charges have been filed against the defendant Georgi Georgiev. The first is about threats to kill Deborah Mihailova, the second is about the fact that on June 26, 2023, in an apartment in Stara Zagora, against her will, she cut her hair with electric scissors, and the third – that on the same date and place as particular cruelty, by hitting the head with a fist and making 18 cuts with a fake knife, causing the victim to suffer moderate injuries of two degrees.

Currently, experts present a forensic medical examination of the bodily injuries caused. The defense described the injuries as minor bodily injuries. Before entering the courtroom, Deborah told reporters that she had about 400 stitches on her body and her physical damage was much more than average, but there were still experts who would say that. “I estimate the maximum sentence provided by law, I think about 10 years,” Mihailova also said. And he added: “I don't think the court will change his detention to a lighter one, as requested by the defense.”

The assault case against Deborah Mihailova occurred in the summer of 2023 and caused a wave of sympathy throughout the country. Then people staged rallies and protests against domestic violence and supported the girl.
