DOBBIACO. Chemical alarm at the Dobbiaco ice rink: an ammonia leak from pipes at the ice rink required massive intervention by firefighters.
The intervention team, equipped with protective clothing and personal protective equipment, managed to seal the leak in the pipe, reduce the ammonia vapor using water jets and then, with the help of technicians, empty the pipe.
During the operation, local residents were asked to close windows and doors. Fortunately, no one was poisoned or injured.
The accident was apparently triggered last night by door assembly work at the ice rink, which caused the ammonia pipe to fail. After the alarm was raised, firefighters immediately intervened at the scene and after approximately 3 hours of work they managed to repair the pipe, ventilate the system and remove the steam with nebulized water.
