German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that he is firing his Finance Minister Christian Lindner, the news agencies said, noting that the news could further shake up the three ruling coalitions and even end them.
In front of journalists, Scholz accused Lindner of putting the party's narrow interests above the public's interests.
“Everyone who is part of government must act responsibly and reliably. “You can't hide when there is a problem,” said the Chancellor. “You have to be ready to compromise for the sake of all citizens.”
“But right now Christian Lindner's attention is not focused on that. Rather, it is focused on the client,” he said.
Scholz added that he would ask for a vote of confidence from parliament to decide the future fate of his government, a vote on January 15.
