The only dam for drinking needs in the Kardzhali region has sufficient volume to guarantee water supply in the region and currently there is no danger of water shortage due to drought. This was stated by the manager of the water and sanitation company, Eng. Slavcho Slavkov told BTA, adding that the water level was only a few meters below the spillway.
He recalled that the drinking dam is the “Borovitsa” dam, and added that in recent years its volume has not been reduced to the point of requiring the implementation of the regime.
Eng.Slavkov explained, apart from that, the community also receives water for drinking needs through wells with pumping stations along the Perpereshka and Varbitsa rivers. According to him, although we cooperate with the “Irrigation System” to irrigate the river bed, the water system is implemented in the summer months.
The BTA reminded that the regime also occurred this summer, when the water supply was disrupted in populated areas of almost all cities in the district. This situation is caused by high temperatures, lack of rainfall, and a sharp decrease in water volume in rivers that are sources of drinking water. Until now, there are only a few villages whose water supply has been disrupted, said Water and Sewerage Company Manager, Eng.
