The Duchess of Gloucester replaces ailing Queen Camilla at a major event ahead of Armistice Day | Kingdom | News

It comes as Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday that Camilla, who had just returned from a busy long-distance tour of Australia and Samoa as well as a luxury spa holiday in India, was unwell with a chest infection.

They said he would miss the opening of the Field of Remembrance and the reception of Olympic and Paralympic athletes on the same day while he recuperated.

However, the Queen's recovery appeared to be going well on Wednesday, The Palace issued a new statement who said he is expected to join King Charles at the glitzy global premiere of Gladiator II next week.

Camilla's newly announced engagement next week, which also includes a Booker Prize reception at Clarence House on Tuesday, will raise hopes she can attend this weekend's Remembrance event.

The Queen, who is resting at her Wiltshire home, Ray Mill, hopes to attend the annual Festival of Remembrance on Saturday evening at the Royal Albert Hall, and a moving national service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday.
