Industrial production in Germany in September fell 2.5% compared to the previous month and fell 4.6% compared to the same month in 2023, according to preliminary seasonally adjusted data published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). When compared quarterly, production from July 2024 to September 2024 was 1.9% lower than the previous three months. The figure in August 2024 has been slightly revised downwards: +2.6% compared to July 2024 versus +2.9% of the initial value.
The trade surplus fell to 17 billion in September
In September 2024, Germany will also record a trade surplus of 17 billion euros. According to Destatis, the Federal Statistical Office, in that month German exports fell by 1.7% compared to the previous month to 128.2 billion euros (seasonally adjusted figure), while imports increased by 2.1% on a monthly basis to 111.3 billion euros. On an annual basis, exports were almost stable (-0.2%), while imports increased 1.3% compared to September 2023. In August 2024, Germany's trade balance surplus amounted to 21.4 billion euros, and in September 2023 it amounted to 18.6 billion euros .
