US President Joe Biden promised a “peaceful and orderly” handover of power to President-elect Donald Trump, world news agencies reported.
In his speech at the White House, the Democratic president stressed the need to reduce political tensions in his country, notes France Press. This is Biden's first speech since his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, announced victory.
“You can't love your country only when you win. You can't love your neighbor only when you think the same way. One thing I hope we can do is see each other not as enemies but as Americans.” it doesn't matter who you vote for,” he said in a statement from the White House Rose Garden.
America's electoral system is fair, just and transparent. “He can be trusted whether you lose or win,” Biden added.
“In a democracy, the will of the people always wins,” added the US President at the start of his speech.
In closing, he reminded that defeat does not mean loss. “America survives,” Biden warned. We will get through it, but we have to stay committed.
