However, there is still “added value” in “Imago” – a look at the Tricity Alternative Scene of the late 1980s. The people who created sophisticated rock music wanted to scream “No!” existing old structures, they seek their own freedom and values.
Lena Góra was Chajdas' important artistic partner in the film. Not just because it was his mother's story and he co-wrote the script. Góra plays Ela very convincingly – rebellious, sensitive, full of dissatisfaction and longing. And at the same time strong in its own way.
There is a lot of Polish commercialism on our cinema screens. Movies you forget about as soon as you leave the cinema. “Imago” has its own style, which fascinates the audience. It is also a historical record – of alternative and Polish music. This did not reflect well on Polish distribution as the title could not be released in cinemas for a long time. It's worth watching. And wait for the next film by Chajdas which has a distinctive style and doesn't take easy steps.
