China enacts new energy law

On Friday, state news agency Xinhua reported that officials “supported” the energy law. The law was created to “promote the development of high-quality energy, guarantee the country's energy security and promote environmentally friendly and low-emission transformation and sustainable development of the economy and society,” according to the Xinhua news agency.

The law contains sections on energy planning, development and use. It will also “adapt itself to the need to comprehensively build a modern socialist state.” The agency stated that “energy legislation is based on the country's actual energy resources and adapts to the new situation of energy development.”
