Operations against illegal migration in 41 districts of Türkiye

During operations by Turkish security forces in 41 districts of the country, 257 people were detained, suspected of being organizers of illegal migrant trafficking. Of those detained, 59 people have been detained permanently, Turkish Radio and Television Company TRT said.

The operation was carried out under the code name Shield-28 for 2 weeks in a total of 41 districts in the country, including Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.

The action was carried out in coordination with the Republic's Prosecutor's Office and the Migration Directorate, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on his social media profile. According to him, investigations into nearly 200 people suspected of illegal migrant trafficking, who were caught in the latest operation, are continuing.

Since the beginning of this year, 3,924 organizers of illegal migrant trafficking have been arrested. Nearly half are still in detention, and the rest are on parole.

Türkiye's Interior Minister indicated that operations against illegal migration and organizers of illegal trade will continue throughout the country.
