The Christmas fast is a blessed time to return to ourselves, said Father Dimitar

The Nativity Fast (Christmas) is a blessed time to return to ourselves, Father Dimitar of the Diocese of Vrachan told BTA. Today November 15th is the beginning of the forty days of fasting, which is the second season of Lent after Lent.

Christmas Lent is also called Little Lent, in contrast to Great Lent – Easter Lent. It ends on December 24 – Christmas Eve, according to a reference from the BTA's “Reference” department.

True repentance is being able to see one's own sins, not judging them, said Pastor Dimitar. According to him, every person has a soul and does not have nationality, tastes, skin color, whether male or female. “And it is important to understand that we must live for our souls and not just care for our bodies,” he added.

Pastor Dimitar added that the first week in post is very important. Every self-respecting Christian has an Orthodox prayer book inside him, he said. It is through prayer that we enter fasting, added Pastor Dimitar.

He advises taking communion in the first days of fasting.
