Vice President Iliana Yotova will be a guest at the opening of the exhibition “70 years of CERN and 25 years of Bulgaria at CERN”

Vice President Iliana Yotova will today participate in the opening of an exhibition showcasing the achievements of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Bulgaria's contribution to it, the press office of the head of state announced.

The opening starts at 15.00 at the Physics Faculty of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. The exhibition is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of CERN and the 25th anniversary of Bulgaria's membership in the organization. More than 100 Bulgarian scientists, engineers and technicians are involved in various CERN projects. The exposition will remain until November 28 and can be viewed with free access from 10:00 to 17:00.

This year, the European Particle Physics Laboratory – CERN celebrates its 70th anniversary. CERN was founded by 12 European countries in 1954. The history of the organization is one of success and cooperation. Currently, CERN has 24 member countries, with Bulgaria being the 20th in a row, eight associate members and cooperation protocols with 48 other countries. The laboratory has long transcended its formal boundaries and has transformed from a European laboratory into a global laboratory, with 2,300 permanent collaborators, more than 1,000 scholarship holders, and nearly 13,000 associated researchers from more than 100 countries around the world, according to the Faculty of Physics.
