China is ready to maintain communication with relevant countries and jointly safeguard the security of international underwater infrastructure, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said today, as quoted by Reuters.
Department spokesperson Lin Jiang said this in response to questions about Chinese ships in Danish waters And Finnish and Swedish investigations about two broken fiber optic telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea. Lin added that he had no details about the ship.
Denmark's armed forces yesterday said they were closely monitoring the Chinese bulk carrier Yi Peng 3, which is currently maintaining a position in the strait between Denmark and Sweden, but did not say what cable was down or why they were monitoring the ship.
