In Brazil, a man who tried to enter the country's Supreme Court carrying explosives died Wednesday evening.
– Citizens of this country approached the Federal Supreme Court, tried to enter, failed and an explosion occurred at the entrance, Celina Leao, governor of the capital Brasilia, told reporters.
The courthouse was evacuated at the end of the hearing after two explosions were heard nearby.
A Federal Police spokesperson immediately confirmed that there were fatalities found in front of the Supreme Court. Police called the explosion an “attack” and said they were investigating.
On the same side of the square as the courthouse are also the presidential palace and state congress. The country's president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, was not present when the blast occurred, according to his spokesman.
The blast comes as Brazil prepares to host the G20 meeting starting next week in Rio de Janeiro, where Lula is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.
