Alex Ferguson loses his job at Manchester United

English.- Alex Ferguson will step down as Manchester United ambassador at the end of the season, a person familiar with the decision told the AP on Tuesday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not been announced publicly.

Ferguson will be 83 in December and the man said the end of his tenure as ambassador was an “amicable” one and that he would “always be welcome at Old Trafford.” Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles with United and is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history. He is United's most successful coach, with 28 major trophies.

He has been an ambassador for the club since retiring after leading United to their last League title, in 2013.

His imminent departure comes at a time when the club is undergoing major changes following its partial purchase by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe in February. United has undergone a major restructuring program following Ratcliffe's $1.3 billion investment for a 27.7 percent stake and implemented cost-saving initiatives that it said included staff reductions in around 250 positions. United reported a loss of £113.2 million in its latest report.
