Two Chinese citizens were injured in shooting in the Pakistani city of Karachi

Two Chinese men were shot today at a shopping mall in the Pakistani city of Karachi, police and medics said, quoted by Reuters. The attack is the latest in a series of attacks that have prompted Beijing to demand greater security for its citizens in Pakistan.

The two Chinese men were shot dead, senior police official Faizan Ali said, without elaborating.

A spokesman for Liaquat National Hospital in the southern port city said both victims were being treated there, and one person was in serious condition.

So far it is not clear who carried out the attack and whether an armed group was behind the attack.

In October, two Chinese engineers were killed in a bomb blast outside Karachi's international airport. The separatist Balochistan Liberation Army group later claimed responsibility for the attack.

Decades of insurgency in the southwest region waged by separatist groups seeking a share of the region's resources has led to frequent attacks on Chinese government forces, the military and interests.
