BC police foil the theft of $12,800 worth of cheese at Whole Foods

Frontline officers in BC got the mozzarella but didn't get the man in a recent “cheese heist” at a Whole Foods in North Vancouver.

RCMP say they were on patrol on Sept. 29 when they discovered a cart full of cheese outside a grocery store near East 13th Street and Lonsdale Avenue.

It was 4 a.m., and the store was closed, so police said they began investigating and identified the suspect, who fled on foot, leaving the cheese behind.

The total value of the cheese was estimated at $12,800, but “unfortunately, the cheese was no longer sellable once it was removed from the refrigerator,” said Cst. Mansoor Sahak in his written statement.

Sahak said the cessation of thefts was the result of proactive police patrolling areas with high crime rates.

Police are now asking anyone with information about the theft to come forward.
