TV star Keeley Hawes appears to be in danger of cloning herself in footage released for her new sci-fi film, Orphan Black: Echoes.
The Durrells, Line of Duty and Bodyguard actress gets top billing in the jaw-dropping new 10-part episode, premiering later this month on ITVX.
The show is a spin-off of the Canadian hit Orphan Black, which fans called “Clone Club” and again promises more of the so-called “mad science.”
In the spin-off, Hawes plays Dr. Kira Manning, the daughter of Sarah Manning, who was the main character of the original series Orphan Black.
Co-star Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones, Breaking Bad, Love & Death) plays Lucy, a woman who has undergone a procedure and doesn't remember who she is.
An ITV spokesperson said: “Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black dives deep into exploring the scientific manipulation of human existence.”
The role may seem like a change for Keeley Hawes, but one of her last projects was The Midwich Cuckoos, a science fiction classic by John Wyndham, which was adapted for Sky.
Orphan Black: Echoes showrunner John Fawcett said of the new series: “To all our dedicated OB fans, I am delighted that we can bring you this new chapter.
“Without our fans, this new show certainly would not exist and for that I am deeply grateful. I can't wait to 'follow the mad science' for them.”
