Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway slams Ed Balls for ‘unwise’ remark

Good Morning Britain’s Ed Balls seemed a bit flustered on Thursday morning as Kate Garraway took a cheeky swipe at him. As the ITV programme kicked off, Kate told viewers she had a word with Ed before going on air.

Before she could delve into her story, Ed commented: “You are my favourite co-presenter of all time, but please don’t tell Susanna! It gets me into terrible trouble.”

However, it appeared as though this confession was Ed backtracking from what he’d said in a social media video for Good Morning Britain’s Facebook page. Kate added: “It’s a lovely interview talking about the fascinating life he’s had.

“He was asked who his favourite presenter was, he faffed a bit and then said very clearly Ranvir (Singh), Susanna Reid. I don’t blame him because he’s our favourite.”

Sharing her thoughts from across the studio, Ranvir added: “Well, you do blame him a little bit?”. She replied: “I don’t blame him, I just thought it was unwise, seeing as he’s working with me this morning!”

As Ed and Ranvir burst out laughing, Kate joked that his bravery was to be saluted.

Defending his remark, Ed commented: “I’d just come off the air with you for the past three hours, why didn’t I say it was you?”

Kate jokingly told him it was most likely because he felt as though she was his least favourite presenter after spending that long on air with one another.

She added: “Susanna, we love you and we know you’re watching.”

As the show played a snippet of Ed’s interview, the host could be heard listing off some of the female colleagues he’s presented alongside.

However, it was Susanna Reid who he decided to single out as being his favourite to be in the hot seat with.

Ranvir added: “To be fair, we all agree!”

All laughing, Ed tried to make amends as he continued: “Actually, you are my favourite, but don’t tell Susanna!”

Ed first appeared on Good Morning Britain as a guest presenter in 2021 before becoming part of the permanent roster of hosts in 2022.

Since Ben Shephard left the daytime programme at the start of the year to join This Morning, Ed has appeared more regularly on the show.

Over the years, he’s fronted alongside the likes of Kate, Susanna and Charlotte Hawkins.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
