Joe Swash shares ‘bizarre feeling’ amid return to EastEnders set after talking show future

Joe Swash has admitted it “feels bizarre” to be back on the EastEnders set after previously revealing his return for a Christmas special in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner played Mickey Miller on the BBC soap on and off between 2003 and 2011.

The actor, who travelled down to Haven’s new flagship park on the Kent coast with his wife Stacey Solomon and their children earlier this year, teased the exciting festive episode that aired last night. Taking to Instagram, he gave his 1.9 million followers a special insight behind the scenes.

“Was so fun being back on set for The Six @BBCEastenders special,” Joe shared in the caption, as he panned his phone camera along a corridor lined with dressing rooms. EastEnders: The Six – Revealed, which Joe hosted, aired on BBC Three yesterday.

“I’m lucky enough to be back at EastEnders doing a bit of work and it’s actually the first time I’ve been in where the dressing rooms are,” he continued. “It is such a bizarre feeling because this hasn’t changed at all. I haven’t been here for 20 years and it is exactly the same.

“I just want to go and see who has my dressing room,” he continued, before panning to a door labelled Jamie Borthwick. “The boy Jamie’s got my dressing room!” Joe exclaimed happily. “I hope he’s looking after it.”

“Still remember Albert Square inside out,” he captioned his next clip with a laughing emoji, as he explored the pretend town.

EastEnders: The Six – Revealed saw Joe interview the actresses behind Albert Square’s most loved matriarchs about the upcoming Christmas ‘whodunnit’ storyline.

Diane Parish, Gillian Taylforth, Kellie Bright, Letitia Dean, Lacey Turner and Balvinder Sopal were on hand to speak about their characters’ most jaw-dropping moments of the past year.

They also shared some of their theories on what might motivate their characters to commit a chilling Christmas crime.

Joe previously opened up to Express.co.uk about if he thinks his character Mickey Miller will make a comeback on the BBC soap.

“I always try and keep my toe in with EastEnders, because I love them,” Joe said. “The two TV loves of my life are EastEnders and I’m A Celebrity.”

Joe won his series of ITV’s I’m A Celeb in 2008, going on to become a host of I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp and even meeting his future with Stacey on the show.

“I always try and keep in touch with them and stuff like that,” Joe said of his two favourite shows.

“The thing is with EastEnders, you know, if they want you back, they’ll have you back,” he continued. “They bring people back from the dead.

“If they want me that badly, they would have had me by now,” he reflected. “So I think it’s one of those things, you know, things move on, I’ve moved on, the show has moved on.

“You never know,” he added. “But that option has not been there yet, so I haven’t had to make that decision.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Joe went on to praise the newly revamped Haven Kent Coast holiday park, which has recently undergone an £18 million transformation to include lots of exciting activities for kids, including a 6m jump, segways and trampolines.
