Almost a month of filming in Bordeaux
The filming location is, of course, obvious to Henri Verneuil, who is in awe of the city. In August 1990, he recalls: “I did the Bordeaux-Paris journey by truck, to see how the drivers lived. I remember all the shots from the movie, all the places we shot. But I don't keep anything else, no photos, no paper. I really liked the characters in this movie. I have a lot of affection for him. These scenes shot on the quays remain a very fond memory for Henri Verneuil, shared by Bordeaux actor Marcel Roche, who recalls that “Gabin spoke very slowly. Even during rehearsals, he had his own “cinema” tone. He was charming, not too talkative.”
The film crew stayed in Bordeaux for almost a month, during which the scenes were shot in front of the Palais de la Bourse and the rue Saint-Rémi. Among the representation, there are some local elements and especially artists from Bordeaux such as Francine Crémet or Roger Gauthier.
