Britain looks set to bask in 20C warming hot weather The latest weather maps show an anticyclone pushing back this week's cold snap.
Severe frosts saw temperatures drop below zero in all four counties on Thursday night, with temperatures in Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, reaching -2.7C.
Despite the cool weather of the last few days, the weekend is expected to be much warmer, with clear and dry skies in many areas and temperatures rising to the 10-20 degree range in some areas, and even reaching 20 degrees Celsius in some.
An anticyclone of dry and settled weather is set to develop over the south of England, bringing dry and settled weather to many areas.
Netweather forecaster Terry Scholey said a cold front would move across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Saturday (September 14), bringing showers followed by clear skies and light winds.
That will make Sunday (September 15) the best day of the weekend in that part of the UK. Mr Scholey added: “By then our cold front, which is a weak feature at the moment, will have settled over the north of England, bringing a band of cloud and some light rain.”
“However, the south is expected to see dry, clear weather and a gradual warming as temperatures return to the 20s Celsius range early next week under the warm September sunshine.”
Netweather weather maps on Friday show 20-21C in Greater London, 20C in Norwich, 19C in Southampton, 17C in Bristol and 19C in Liverpool on Sunday.
Greater Manchester could see temperatures reach 19C at 3pm on Monday (September 16), with Gloucester forecast to hit 20C, Ipswich 21C and Plymouth 19C, according to WX Charts.
Jason Kelly, Chief Meteorologist Meteorological Bureausaid the cold arctic air we've been experiencing will be replaced by warmer westerly winds over the weekend.
He added: “High pressure will bring fine weather to the south, but there is an area of low pressure to the north-west which will push some weather fronts across Scotland and Northern Ireland, bringing showers and thicker cloud. The north of Scotland will also be windy, particularly on Saturday.”
