Tropical storm “Sara” hit northern Honduras

Tropical storm “Sara” reached northern Honduras last night, threatening parts of Central America and southern Mexico with heavy rains, the Associated Press reported.

According to the Miami-based US National Hurricane Center, Sara made landfall about 100 miles (165 km) northwest of Cabo Gracias a Dios, on the border between Honduras and Nicaragua. It's near Bruce Laguna, a town of about 13,000 people. There are several other settlements nearby.
Mexican authorities warned that the storm could cause “torrential rain” on the Yucatan Peninsula.

“Sara” was accompanied by winds with a speed of around 75 km/h. According to the hurricane center, this storm brings heavy rain that can cause life-threatening flooding and landslides.

Forecasters said the storm would pass over or very close to the popular tourist island of Roatan off the coast of Honduras on Sunday. It is then expected to head northwest towards Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula.
