The religious man was about to finish mass in the San Cristóbal de las Casas neighborhood when he was struck by gunfire last Sunday.
This morning, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that the Prosecutor General's Office (FGR) brought the case of the murder of priest Marcelo Pérez, in San Cristóbal de las Casas, and rejected the “civil war”.
A day earlier, Sheinbaum promised that there would be no impunity following the killing of priest Marcelo Pérez, an indigenous defender in Chiapas, a southern border state facing a wave of violence from organized crime.
“I want to state that we regret the murder, the murder of Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez in San Cristóbal de las Casas, the investigation is underway,” the president said at the start of his morning conference.
