Volkwagen’s ID7 EV will come in just two trims for the U.S. market

Volkswagen’s upcoming ID7 electric sedan will be offered in just two trims in the United States when it arrives later this year.

Volkswagen of America said the trims will be Pro S and Pro S Plus. Meanwhile, VW’s lone EV on sale in the U.S., the ID4 compact crossover, is offered in standard, Pro, S, Pro S and Pro S Plus trims.

The ID7, which will be imported from Germany, will be powered by an 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack.

VW said ID7s with rear-wheel drive will have 282 hp and 402 pound-feet of torque while all-wheel drive will have 335 hp.

The ID7’s range and pricing will be revealed closer to the vehicle’s U.S. launch in the third quarter, VW said. In a release, VW called the ID7 its first electric model “in the near-luxury sedan segment.”

Earlier this month, Volkswagen Group of America CEO Pablo Di Si said he doesn’t expect the ID7 or ID Buzz minivan to be huge sales drivers in the U.S., but referred to the pair as halo vehicles.

Standard features on the ID7 will include 19-inch wheels, front and rear illuminated logos and keyless entry. Inside, there’s a 15-inch infotainment screen, an augmented reality head-up display, a heated steering wheel, heated and massaging front seats and an electrochromatic glass roof, among other creature comforts.

VW’s IQ Drive suite of driver assistance technology is standard as are park assist features.

The Pro S Plus trim comes with 20-inch wheels, adaptive damping and upgraded seats, VW said.
