Ant and Dec unrecognisable in resurfaced clip from Saturday Night Takeaway

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway were left shocked during the latest live show (March 30) after a flashback from the first-ever episode was aired. The ITV show is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary after it was launched in 2002 with a much young Ant and Dec as hosts.

During the latest instalment of the entertainment show, Emma and Matt Willis were Star Guest Announcers while there was music from JLS and a crossover from Stephen Mulhern.

The Geordie duo also brought back a segment called ‘Home Run’ which they had introduced in their very first series of Saturday Night Takeaway. The concept of ‘Home Run’ follows a person/group of people who have decided to go out on a Saturday instead of watching the show. Once aware they are being filmed for Saturday Night Takeaway, they have until the end of the episode to race back home and win a prize.

To introduce the segment in tonight’s episode, Ant told viewers: “To celebrate our 20th series, we’re bringing back something we did on the first-ever episode of your Saturday Night Takeaway. In fact, it was the first surprise we ever sprung on our audience.”

Dec added: “It was called Home Run. And here’s 2002 Ant and Dec to tell us more.”

The show then cut to a younger-looking pair in the studio who introduced Home Run.

The flashback to the first episode showed how the presenters looked and sounded back in 2002, and viewers were shocked at how much Ant and Dec have changed over the past two decades.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) many fans wasted no time in commenting on the difference in how the duo looked compared to their first series. @Sam_5516 2002 wrote: “Ant and Dec are having way more fun. #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

@Speedqueenie stated: “Ant & Dec looked like children in 2002 #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

@StillNotWitty exclaimed: “How are their voices so different when they’d already gone through puberty then #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

“Ant and Dec sound so different #saturdaynighttakeaway”, added @swansforever.

“Crazy to think after 20 series, some people still have the effrontery to GO OUT!!! No wonder Ant & Dec get livid when this occurs. #SaturdayNightTakeaway”, added @2001joe_mendy.

While fan account @ant_dec_stephen stated: “I love that #SaturdayNightTakeaway”, followed by a string of laughing face emojis.

Saturday Night Takeaway currently airs on Saturday evenings on ITV and ITVX
